Herb Garden—My Very First Aero Garden

Herb Garden—My Very First Aero Garden

The hydroponic herb garden system that’s fool-proof and easy to set-up.

Wishlist

I’ve had an on-going Amazon wishlist of indoor gardening tools, raised beds, seeds, etc etc–it’s a pretty long list! But I kind of hinted to my husband that since I’ve been wanting to do more gardening, I’d like something similar to what was on that list for Christmas.

My husband is awesome with researching products, (he’s always finding the best products on Amazon) and he found me something much better than I was expecting!

On Christmas morning, I opened up a surprisingly large box and found an Aero Garden sitting snuggly inside!

I was so excited and had the system set up in a matter of days!

Why Aerogarden?

It uses nutrients derived from mineral salts and Non-GMO, mostly heirloom seeds sourced from a variety of vendors.

With the AeroGarden, you don’t need to use ripening chemicals and since no soil is used it doesn’t require chemical pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers.

On top of this, according to AeroGarden’s website, studies have shown that food grown with AeroGardens actually pack more vitamins, antioxidants, and phytonutrients than supermarket “certified organic” produce.

You also don’t need to worry about the risk of your produce carrying food-borne illness. I’ve been growing Thai Basil, Genovese Basil, Thyme, and Dill in this one (I had mint and parsley too but they never sprouted :/).

How it went

I have never tried an indoor garden system like this before, so it was exciting for me to try something new.

The whole thing is very easy to set up, and came with helpful instructions.

They have several different models (although some of them are pretty pricey—they’re having a site-wide sale for 25% off ✨right now though) to choose from—some even can be hooked up to your WiFi and managed through an app (although mine doesn’t do this).

I was a little disappointed that my mint and parsley never sprouted but there’s always a chance of that with some seeds you get. And it’s not just herbs you can grow.

They have a variety of salad greens, tomatoes, peppers, etc. you can choose from.

If you’re looking for an easy way to start growing herbs/vegetable indoors—this could be a great start! 😊

Process

I just put the pods with the seeds already in them into the 6 compartments, added water, the plant food that came with it and my garden was up and running!

The hard part was finding a good place for it (the grow lights are quite bright and will make it hard to sleep at night if you have it in a bedroom/living area). I finally found a perfect spot for it in our guest bathroom.

Getting started on this Aero Garden system has me interested in other hydroponic systems like the Kratky method (I have tons of glass containers I’ve recycled and am needing to use!). As I mention in my starter guide, it’s up to debate whether a hydroponic garden is “organic,” but what do you think?

UPDATE:

I just ordered some new seeds to replace the ones that didn’t sprout/Genovese Basil. This isn’t a sponsored post so I can tell you my honest opinion of it.

What I really like about the system is that it’s so low maintenance. It alerts you when you need to add more water/plant food and then you just have to keep it pruned. Really easy and my herbs started growing pretty quickly and have produced a relatively high yield (I’ve been growing them now for almost four months since 12/27).

My Thyme isn’t doing so good right now, but it’s probably because I let the Dill and Thai Basil grow so big and block out the grow lights. You’ll want to check up on your plants fairly often since they grow so fast.
